Stars, Stripes & Shelter Virtual 5K
This very successful project helped raise $5000 for the Family Emergency Fund managed by Family Promise of Beaverton. Your donations to us this summer will continue to go to this fund.
Are your spring and summer races cancelled? Stuck at home? No problem. You can run or walk a 5k anytime, anywhere and help to benefit Beaverton's vulnerable families. Better yet, your race items will be mailed/dropped off directly to you!
The Stars, Stripes & Shelter 5K gives you the opportunity to meet your fitness goals while supporting efforts to keep Beaverton folks in their homes. Planting Seeds Community of Beaverton helps to support marginalized youth in the Beaverton School District, and funds raised from this race will go to support the Family Emergency Fund! While families are avoiding eviction currently, we know that this pandemic has affected the livelihoods of families everywhere. This fund will help families avoid eviction and put together security deposits. After all, everyone deserves a safe and secure place to call home.
Our friends at Family Promise of Beaverton support vulnerable families throughout our city with connections to social services and a safe place to stay. With this fund, they will be able to support folks while keeping them in their homes.
Beaverton School District’s H.E.L.P. Center provides families experiencing housing difficulties with services such as transportation, free or reduced cost school meals, and social referrals. They work closely with Family Promise to provide temporary housing and services to challenged Beaverton families.
Of course, it is better if families never have to experience the trauma of homelessness in the first place. Keeping a family whole prevents the expenses that come with homelessness: the cost to move into a new apartment can range between $2,000 - $5,000. Providing services to families in need is easier and more effective when those families are settled in a home they don’t have to leave.
Accordingly, Family Promise and the H.E.L.P. Center have asked the community to help them start an emergency fund to keep families from getting evicted. Can you help?
People can donate directly with a check made out to Family Promise of Beaverton (HUMI in the subject line), may use Paypal by linking to , and can Venmo money to the project @FPBeavertonHUMI.
With YOUR help, we can help prevent the problems of homelessness before they even start! Thank you!
